Why tall wood is the hidden gems of Square Mile

In a new series that celebrates people and places that are nominated for our toast the city awards, Steve Dinneen visited one of the best hidden gems, tall wood, riverbank restaurants and wine bar with unlike vibrations that are not like the others.

What’s that? Despite being one of the most established city restaurants (it’s 17 years old and I first wrote about it 15 years ago), you will be forgiven for ignoring this small gem located on the north bank, at least because you have to navigate the Thames Atas Jalan Atas that cannot be penetrated to get there. However, as soon as you succeeded there, you were welcomed by the best river views throughout London, with the southern bridge on your left, the Millennium Bridge on your right and the Globe Shakespeare and the modern tate straight ahead.

High Timber – Don’t be confused with the British Soft Wine brand Nyetimber – is a restaurant owned by South Africa and is proudly operated. The founders of Gary and Kathy Jordan run Jordan Wine Estate – No stranger to the most prestigious wine award in the world – while the face of the restaurant is Neleen Strauss, a fellow South African with a dry and dry sense of humor and encyclopedical knowledge about grapes.

Why go? Besides liquor, there are serious foods offered. From the classics of South Africa such as Croket Biltong and Restaurants (South African Dry Sausage) to seasonal dishes including Asparagus and Lincolnshire Poacher smoking, there is depth and quality for this menu. However, for electricity, no longer visible from meat. Steak – imported from South Africa, naturally – very good and gives you a reason to order one or two red glasses, even if you eat in the summer sun.

When is the best to go? For a long and lazy lunch at sunset. The terrace is Suntrap in warmer months and, on Friday afternoon, one of our companies is a runner occasionally and the sound of the waves that rise on the riverbank.

If you plan to taste a number of good items, I suggest making this the last meeting promise today so that you can really lean on the Epicurean Delights High Timber offered.

Who should be taken? Wine fans. High wood warehouses are very spectacular, especially if you are interested in South African wine. Even if, like me, you are more curious to wine, Strauss will be happy to bring you on an oenological tour in South Africa. My choice from the recognized sample wine list is Lismore Cape South Coast Chardonnay 2021, the grapes are so complex that you want to take a pen and paper to try to finish, choose oranges and tropical fruits that are roasted, all that are placed on the rigid mining foundation. Beautiful item.
