A major shake-up could potentially occur at Liverpool following the club’s shock decision to sack Arne Slot just a year after guiding the Reds to the Premier League title.
The change in coach does not only affect Liverpool’s transfer direction this summer. Several players who were previously said to be leaving Anfield could now get a new opportunity if Andoni Iraola is actually appointed as Slot’s replacement.
Sports director Richard Hughes and the club’s staff are expected to be active in the transfer market. However, changes in the coaching chair could bring a number of players who had been excluded back into the equation.
Curtis Jones Could Be an Important Option
Before the change of coach occurred, Curtis Jones’ future was in question. The 25-year-old midfielder has even been linked with a possible move from Liverpool, with Inter Milan said to be one of the suitors.
Even though Jones still played quite often last season. He made 49 appearances in all competitions.
Iraola’s arrival has the potential to change this situation. The Spanish coach is known to like players who are able to carry out several roles at once on the field.
Jones can not only play as a midfielder, but has also been placed in the wing-back position. That flexibility can be an added value that makes it retained.
Second Chance for Harvey Elliott
Harvey Elliott’s name was one that was widely discussed ahead of last season. However, his career journey did not go according to expectations.
The English player joined Aston Villa on loan with a permanent option. However, he had difficulty getting regular playing minutes.
Throughout the season, Elliott only appeared in 11 matches in all competitions before finally returning to Anfield.
However, it is still believed that the quality has not been lost. His less than ideal relationship with slots makes his playing opportunities increasingly limited. A change of manager could be the momentum that revives his career with Liverpool.
Endo Can Still Be Useful
A similar fate also befell Wataru Endo.
The Japanese midfielder only appeared in 12 matches throughout the season. Since being recruited during the Jurgen Klopp era, Endo has never really been the main choice under Slot.
Most of his time last season was spent on the bench.
