The Head of the Holiday Chain Executive Park Butlin has hit the Chancellor Rachel Reeves after saying the tax increase for business is not a way to improve the British economy.
Speak in the upcoming episode AM CityThe open council show, Jon Hendry Pickup said the country would “will not impose taxes on success” and that the autumn budget last year “feels like its own goal”.
CEO added that allowing businesses to invest, grow and develop their propositions will be a better way to improve the economy than to increase taxes to companies such as the contribution of national insurance entrepreneurs and raise national minimum wages.
He added that the two tax increases had made it difficult for companies such as Butlin to employ new employees and that autumn budget in 2024 felt like “tax on work”.
When asked what he would say to the Chancellor Rachel Reeves if given the opportunity, Butlin CEO said: “So that the growth lever they are talking about before the election, is their number one focus.
“I want to see that being the focus of number one, because we will not impose taxes on success.
“We need to ensure that we can stimulate growth. We must be able to invest, to grow our business, to develop propositions, to build skills for our teams. I want to see more of the first and especially.
Butlin boss calls for the public ‘Tell the truth’
When asked whether he had trust in what the PM and Chancellor were doing in power, he added: “I have not seen something that says we will attract the growth lever.
“So I am still a little ‘jury out’ right now. I know they have difficult time to manage.
“But I want them to say something that says we understand the value of private business rather than just managing the public sector, which feels like we do many things today.
“And I want them to say something that we say we know the value of what you are doing. And that’s what we will help you do more in a difficult condition.”
Boss Butlin also detailed what he would do if he was given a lock to number 10 for a day.
He said: “Let’s start recognizing [hospitality] Because it is the third largest employer in England and a place where people often start and get a job and move forward.
“I understand that the government has experienced difficulties at this time from a balanced financial perspective, but it feels like a tax on the work that we did last year, and we were able to see it with the number of people coming out of the hospitality. I think it was disappointing.
“I want to be able to tell the truth about the fact that we have to make difficult decisions.
“We have demographics that say we cannot only have fewer and fewer people pay taxes and rent.
“We need to manage various things differently, make a better choice than we have done and I don’t think we specifically tell the real people about it.
“So, if I have been there for a day, I want to have the real day.”
