At the inaugural Toast the City Awards, one of the most amazing moments was seeing Sheila Dixon, one of the husband and wife team behind City pub the Rising Sun, shed a tear when accepting our award for Best Boozer.
The Rising Sun is one of those pubs where everyone feels like a local – and that’s down to the owner’s love and care. We caught up with Sheila, who told us what winning the Toast the City award means to her and her staff.
“As the second generation to run an independent pub, winning Best Boozer means a lot to the team,” said Dixon. “Everyone at Rising Sun wants to ensure every customer who comes in has a great experience and the recognition of this corruption will be a springboard for us. The support of our loyal customers works for us, but we are also happy to see new faces emerge after winning.”
The Rising Sun has been in service since the 1820s
The Rising Sun has been the centerpiece of the City since the 1820s, so the Square Mile has seen growth over the centuries. Dixon, who has been at Rising Sun for 26 years, described the City’s workers as “a lot of fun to be around, they work hard and play hard.” He also praised City AM for being “the City’s local newspaper – its readers are the people we rely on to keep our business thriving.”
There are many things that make this pub stand out from its competitors: a great selection of drinks, a perfect small toast menu, staff who seem to really care about working behind the bar. But Dixon also points to her window canvas, where The Rising Sun commissioned an artist to create a mural. What’s there now? Celebration of winning the Best Boozer Toast the City award.
“We are constantly changing the artwork in the pub windows to reflect city life,” says Dixon. “Our Toast Awards window has been a big draw for new customers.”
This year we invited last year’s winners from each category to return as judges – so even if The Rising Sun can’t win for the second year in a row, Dixon will help determine next year’s Best Boozer. He said his “neighboring pub in the Cockpit” was one of his top choices. And he should know.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
