One of the most famous restaurants on the Square Mile is moving locations.
Coq d’Argent, the French restaurant on the rooftop of the No 1 Poultry building near Bank, opened in 1998 and maintained its reputation as one of the most reliable lunch spots for nearly three decades, only last year winning City AM’s Toast the City award for Best Rooftop.
But No 1 Poultry’s redevelopment has been granted by the courts forcing the restaurant, managed by The Evolv Collection, to look for new premises.
Martin Williams, CEO, said in a statement: “Following the court decision to allow the redevelopment of Poultry No 1, we can confirm that Coq d’Argent will relocate in 2027 to a new rooftop location within one square mile.
“Coq d’Argent has been offering award-winning hospitality since 1998 and can boast that it is a truly iconic London restaurant and remains an important part of the Evolv Collection, which deeply honors the legacy of our Founder, Sir Terence Conran.”
Coq d’Argent will move to a new roof
Williams’ statement went on to confirm that the restaurant has confirmed another rooftop location, and that Coq d’Argent will reopen in its new location in early 2027, with an announcement of that location to follow at a “time to be determined.”
“Last year was a record year for Coq d’Argent and we are thrilled that 2026 will build on the recent success and recognition of ‘The Coq’, to deliver the best summer ever on our rooftop terrace and our biggest Christmas season yet.”
Writing in City AM in 2025, Life&Style editor Steve Dinneen described Coq d’Argent’s terrace as “the place you’d want to be in the middle of a heatwave”, feeling “more like Los Angeles than central London.”
“Lush greenery is visible everywhere while umbrellas keep the heat in. Here the crowd is diverse – there are no lines in sight – sipping beer to the sound of lounge jazz.”
The restaurant specializes in classic French dishes such as steak tartare, escargot, chops and seafood. There’s also an extensive wine list and French-inspired cocktails.
Renowned for its location as beautiful as what’s on the plate, the restaurant’s layout was designed by its founder, Sir Terence Conran. Poultry No 1 was designed by British architect Sir James Stirling.
The Grade II listed postmodern City landmark will receive a £100 million renovation that will restore its office space and roof, funded by South Korean investor IGIS Asset Management.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
