An aircraft has been involved in a collision at Southend Airport, said the police.
In a statement, Essex police said they remained in the “serious incident” location and were warned just before 4 pm on Sunday for “Cabling Reports involving a 12 meter aircraft”.
Images posted on social media show a lump of fire and black smoke that emerged from the location of the accident at Essex Airport.
As a precautionary act because of their closeness to the incident, the police said they evacuated Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club.
According to the airport website, four flights scheduled to take off on Sunday afternoon have been canceled.
In a post in X, David Burton-Sampson, a member of the labor parliament for Southend West and Leigh, said: “I know the incident at Southend Airport.
“Please keep away and let the emergency service do their work.
“My mind with everyone involved.”
Matt Dent, a member of the Southend City Council Cabinet for business, culture, music and tourism, told X: “I know the serious incident that is taking place at London Southend Airport.
“Right now what I know is that a small plane has crashed at the airport. My mind is with all those involved, and with an emergency service currently responding to the incident.”
The police remain at the scene with fire and ambulance services, The Force added.
