Mahmood to determine more stringent guidelines for unlimited leave

Migrants who want to remain in England must learn English with high standards, have a clean criminal record and volunteer in their community, the Secretary of the Domestic will say.

In the speech of the Labor Party Conference on Monday, Shabana Mahmood is expected to determine a series of conditions for those who seek unlimited leave to remain status.

Asylum seekers also need to work, pay national insurance and not claim benefits, under the proposed change.

Workers said there was a “dividing line” between government proposals and British promise reform to cancel the status completed for all non-EU migrants.

Consultation on changes will be launched later this year.

In its white book published in May, the government also promised to increase the amount of time that had to wait before they could apply for unlimited leave to remain in the UK for up to 10 years.

At present, most migrants who come to England with limited time work visas can make applications for unlimited leave to remain after five years.

In his speech, MS Mahmood is also expected to express his fears that “patriotism, power for good, turns into something smaller, something more like ethno-nationalism”.

MS Mahmood will argue its toughness on a safe border, fair migration and a safe road is an important component of a country that is “open, generous, tolerant”.

He will also warn party members that “you will not always like what I do”.

MS Mahmood will talk about the experience of his parents who arrive in England, on the grounds that the acceptance of migrants depends on their contributions to the local community.

In addition, he is expected to refer to his personal experience about quoting while working behind the corner of his family as a child.

The domestic secretary will launch the “winter action” scheme in an effort to handle the proposal.
