The construction of three new cities will begin before the next election, the Housing Secretary will promise the Labor Party Conference.
The government will “do anything to build the British”, Steve Reed is expected to tell labor members on the opening day of the annual party meeting at Liverpool.
Work in 12 new cities will be announced, Mr. Reed will announce, as recommended by a report from the New City Task Force, which was published on Sunday morning.
But the priority for construction in parliament today is likely to be Tempsford in Bedfordshire, Leeds South Bank, and Crews Hill, North London, described by workers as “the most promising site”.
Each of the dozens of new cities will have at least 10,000 houses, and collectively can produce 300,000 houses built throughout the United Kingdom.
Mr Reed is expected to welcome recommendations by the new city task force that at least 40% of these new homes must be reached.
In his manifest, workers promised to start working on 1.5 million new homes during parliament, to expand home ownership to more British people.
In his speech at the labor conference, Steve Reed’s housing secretary is expected to say: “We will fight for people who work hard, locked from a safe house for too long by a conservative government from blocking.
“This labor government will not sit and let this happen. I will do anything to build the British. We must ‘build a baby building’.”
Seconds housing to reflect post-war housing boom
In a nod to the new city program founded by the Clement Attlee Labor Government, Mr. Reed will add: “This party built new cities after the war to fulfill our promises about homes that are suitable for heroes.
“Now, with the worst economic heritage since the war, we will once again build the latest community to provide a house that is suitable for families of all shapes and sizes.
“I launched the next new city generation who took lessons from the post-war government housing boom … mobilizing the full power of the country to build a new generation of new cities and restore the dream of home ownership to thousands of families throughout the country.”
Ahead of the speech, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “For many families, home ownership is a long dream.
“My worker government will sweep blocking to build a house, build the next new city generation.”
Among the steps of the workforce plan to accelerate the development of housing are “new city units”, which aims to pump personal and public cash to the transportation link, general practitioner operations, schools and open green spaces in new settlements.
This unit will work with leading architects to ensure new cities have their own unique character and identity, which is intended to reflect their local area.
The ministers also plan to model construction and planning efforts behind each city about the regeneration of Stratford, East London, before and after the 2012 Olympics.
Olympic parks, and surrounding housing, are supervised by development companies, bodies with great strengths that allow it to be obliged to buy land and grant planning permits.
While some new cities plan to build it will become an independent settlement, others will be an expansion of existing cities, or new areas in the city.
Among the dozens of locations are sites in Cheshires, Manchester, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Plymouth and London.
It includes:
– Independent settlements in Adlington, Cheshire East, who will serve industries that develop in County and Greater Manchester.
– Developments connected throughout South Goucestershire, near a group of sophisticated engineering and technology businesses.
– Crews Hill, near Enfield, North London.
– rebuilding the former airbase at Heyford Park, Cherwell, Oxfordshire.
– Development of Leeds South Bank, which aims to build new homes for the city, where ministers have invested millions in new transportation funding.
– New house in Victoria North, Inner Manchester.
– Independent settlements in Marlcombe, East Devon.
– Renewal of Milton Keynes City Center and expanded its periphery, in addition to the new mass transportation system.
– New development, solid in Plymouth.
-New City in Tempsford, Bedfordshire, which is located at the intersection of the East-West railroad line and the main east coast train.
– New Riverside settlement in Thamesmead, Greenwich.
– More developments in Worcestershire Parkway, Wychavon.
Environmental assessment needs to be done before planning and building work for each location can be started seriously.
Only last week, Mr. Reed put what he described as a “building acceleration package” given the slow growth in the number of house construction.
Around 80,400 applications were received in the period between April and June 2025, down 5% from the previous year.
Planning authorities throughout the country decided 80,800 applications, down 1% from the same period the previous year.
Mr. Reed described the numbers as “unacceptable”.
