Cap Ferrat can beat Lot in Group Three of the Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse

BEAUTY and top-class racing appear in equal measure in Hong Kong on Sunday, when Sha Tin hosts a 10-race program, featuring the popular Group Three Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse (8.05am), a handicap over nine furlongs.

The Kwok family, owners of beauty brand Sa Sa, were represented at the main event by long-time campaigner and top class Beauty Joy, winner of seven races including the Group Three Premiership over the track and distance in June, when many of her rivals were trailing.

His encouraging seasonal comeback over a mile should put him in the right position for this contest, and he cannot be overlooked, even though he is already nine years old.

You can guarantee champion jockey Zac Purton will contact trainer Francis Lui and ask to ride last season’s HK Derby winner. IRON HEADfollowing the five-year-old who was ‘fully dressed and had nowhere to go’ finishing eighth in a race won by My Wish last month.

Cap Ferrat caught home rival Beauty Joy in her final run last season and is now five pounds better off in just a little while, so she’s saddled with revenge.

There are many other notable contenders in this highly competitive event including Massive Sovereign, Bundle Award, in-form Californiatotality, and last year’s winner Ensued, who all have the best chance of being in top form, but one galloper who may have gone unnoticed and could do better is RUBYLOT.

The David Hayes-trained five-year-old, despite winning half a dozen races in his career, has always promised more, and in the past has not looked out of place when contesting some Group One events.

Perhaps a lack of early pace has proved his downfall in recent races, but the entry of strong pacesetter Pray For Mir will provide a real test of speed and could offset a tough draw on the outside, especially with top pilot Hugh Bowman at the wheel.

With blinkers on for the first time, exciting up-to-date track connections and a head-to-head record over the course and distance, he’s worth backing every way with exciting odds.
