Barcelona Relieved, Kounde’s Injury Not Serious, Available for Spanish Super Cup

The French international player was declared not to have suffered a serious injury after having problems at home to Villarreal last weekend. Now, Kounde will also be available for the Spanish Super Cup match.

Kounde’s condition was initially worrying, shortly after he suddenly fell while holding the back of his right leg.

He was clearly uncomfortable and immediately signaled to the bench that he could not continue.

Given how the incident unfolded, initial reports suggested Kounde may have suffered a muscle injury, with some in the dressing room fearing the worst could happen to him.

No need to worry too much

Initial assessments revealed an injury to the back of his right thigh, and although further medical tests were scheduled for Monday, the mood after the game was cautious.

At one point, there were serious concerns that Kounde could be out for three to four weeks – a scenario that would be a major setback for Hansi Flick, especially considering the defender’s importance.

However, a more detailed examination later brought much-needed relief, Barcelona’s medical team was able to confirm that the injury was not serious and the situation was more of a concern than a genuine muscle problem.

While the discomfort was real and the player was forced off the pitch in visible pain, the damage is understood to be limited to a mild hamstring problem in his right leg.

Currently, Kounde is expected to make a full recovery in around two. This time frame will allow him to be fit and ready to play in the Spanish Super Cup.

There is even cautious optimism within the club that he could be available for the first game of 2026 against Espanyol on January 3 2026, although it would not be risked.
