Gilabola.com – Niclas Fullkrug’s future at West Ham United seems increasingly uncertain after the latest report stated that AC Milan is ready to submit a bid in the January transfer window.
The German striker is also reportedly interested in two Bundesliga clubs, namely Stuttgart and Hamburg, while West Ham are starting to consider the option of selling him permanently.
West Ham have just achieved an important 3-2 victory over Burnley at London Stadium, a result that moved them out of bottom position even though they are still stuck at the bottom of the standings.
However, this victory did not change the situation much for Fullkrug, who is no longer a main part of coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.
Fullkrug was recruited by West Ham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024 for a transfer fee of around IDR 592 billion. His arrival was greeted enthusiastically by supporters, especially after his brilliant performance in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately, the striker’s journey in London went far from expectations.
Repeated injuries make it difficult for the 32 year old player to appear consistently. This season alone he has only appeared six times in the Premier League without scoring a single goal. In fact, he started Nuno’s first two matches but was then knocked out again due to a thigh problem which forced him to be sidelined.
Overall, Fullkrug has only made 27 appearances and three goals for West Ham since joining. This situation made the club start to consider the best options for both parties, including opening up the opportunity to let him leave England.
AC Milan and German Clubs Start Moving
According to reports Tuttomercato website, AC Milan is looking for a new striker to strengthen its front line in the second half of the season. Coach Massimiliano Allegri is said to want additional strength in the attacking position following Santiago Gimenez’s inconsistent performance and the limited contribution from Christopher Nkunku who is on loan from Chelsea.
Milan see Fullkrug as a realistic and experienced option at European level. Even though he is not young, he is considered to still be able to provide variety in attack and depth to the squad, especially in facing the busy Serie A and Champions League schedules.
However, Milan is not the only one interested. Information from TEAM Talk stated that Stuttgart and Hamburg are also considering concrete steps to bring in Fullkrug in January. The two clubs are reportedly more inclined towards short-term loan options rather than permanent purchases.
West Ham itself reportedly prefers to sell Fullkrug permanently rather than loan him out. The club wants to reduce the salary burden and open up space for the arrival of a new striker who is more suited to Nuno’s game scheme.
A number of names have appeared on the club’s radar, including Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee. The two players are being monitored as potential replacements if Fullkrug really leaves.
This situation makes January a crucial period for Fullkrug’s career. If he doesn’t find a new club soon, his chances of appearing with the German national team at next year’s World Cup could be slim.
Fullkrug is said to be seriously considering its future. It is believed that he wants to return to playing regularly so he can maintain his performance and fitness ahead of big tournaments with his country.
