Gilabola.com – Arsenal reportedly rejected a secret approach from AS Roma who wanted to recruit Leandro Trossard at the end of last summer’s transfer window.
Even though the Belgian player has just signed a new deal, the Italian club is still trying to make quiet maneuvers to get him. However, this move was immediately rejected because Mikel Arteta considered Trossard to still be an important part of his plans this season.
According to reports from British media, Roma asked Arsenal questions about Trossard’s availability after they completed the purchase of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for IDR 1.5 trillion.
Even so, the conversation never progressed further. Arsenal emphasized that they have no intention of selling the player who has just received a salary increase as a form of appreciation for his contribution.
Roma’s move did not trigger big rumors in the media because communication between the two clubs stopped at an early stage. Arsenal considers that the time remaining in the transfer market is too limited to find an equivalent replacement, especially since Trossard has shown stable performance since the start of the season.
Previously, Trossard was also interested in Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad and Turkish giant Fenerbahce. However, Arteta has never considered the option of letting him go, because the 30-year-old player is considered important in maintaining squad depth.
Arteta’s confidence in Trossard
Arteta is known to have great trust in the former Brighton player. This can be seen from management’s decision to increase his salary without the need to formally extend his contract. Trossard was the main choice in the left sector of attack during Gabriel Martinelli’s absence due to injury.
This season, he has started the last seven Premier League games, showing consistency and maturity in his game. Arteta views Trossard as a professional player who is able to accept the coach’s decisions with maturity, even when he is not on the starting list.
One of the moments that strengthened that belief came after the match against Aston Villa in August 2024, when Trossard scored a goal from the bench. Arteta believes that the way the player channels his disappointment on the pitch is a sign of high mental quality.
The summer of 2024 will be a difficult time for Trossard. Apart from failing to bring Arsenal to win the Premier League for the third time in a row as runners-up, he also had to part ways with his long-time agent, Josy Comhair, who resigned due to health problems. The player then joined a new agency from Germany, DH Sports and Entertainment.
Even though some Arsenal supporters had doubts, Trossard answered those doubts with an impressive performance. He has scored four goals and four assists in all competitions this season, including a spectacular goal against Sunderland.
Apart from his productivity, Trossard is also known to have a calm character and is not easily influenced by external pressure. This professional attitude has made him one of the most respected players in the Arsenal dressing room.
Trossard’s contribution also proved to have a direct influence on the team’s results. His two goals in the Premier League have given Arsenal an additional three important points in the tight competition for the title. One of them was the deciding goal in the 1-0 victory over Fulham last month.
With a transfer price of only IDR 461 billion from Brighton in January 2023, Trossard’s presence is now considered one of Arsenal’s best purchases in the Arteta era. He not only provides calm in the game, but also offers positional flexibility in the front line.
