The hotel group has captured the idea that the type of company like associating with artists. The emergence of ‘artist residence’ throughout the capital and further proves that artists have mastered that bankers will buy their path closer, if only for that night. Property often accommodates free or cheap artists in return for providing paintings, sculptures, or other works of art as long as they live. There is even a hotel in Paddington called ‘Artist Residence,’ showing how absorbing the trend.

While some of the capital city hotels, including the new Art’otel at Shoreredch, have an artist-in-residence scheme, Bankside Hotel in Southbank is one of the most comprehensive. It has a 200 square meter art gallery in the basement, large enough to be a special attraction, and double the size of many mayfair galleries with a higher profile. Atrium at the Serambi Hotel is an extension of the gallery, binding to the theme of the hotel – other general ideas – that all buildings must be experienced as a work of art.

This is the same idea at Villa Lena in Tuscany, where the artist’s residences program asks creative to “leave a trail” of their work behind when their residency is finished.

Artist’s residence: bring art to every part of the hotel experience

The idea brought a work of art “into the public view, expanding the reach of residency outside the studio wall.” Painter Georgi Morrison is an artist today at the residence, working at the Summer Hotel exhibition that explores the relationship between paintings and sculptures. Morrison will paint the work of three international sculpture artists, adding new statues to the studio every month. His work explores dialogue between nature, architecture and human figure. Guests are invited to wander the gallery during their stay.

“This section is clearly part of me that stepped into a new region. I have encouraged myself to explore different styles during residency,” Morrison said, writing on Instagram. “I still explore. I think I haven’t found a style forever. I approach every new part of a new part. This is a kind of my personality – trying everything.”

Morrison said the residency had helped him experiment with practices involving oil and charcoal storage for the first time. The works of another sculpture artist, Gareth Griffiths, surpassed the hotel to the hotel page to make the work accessible by a wider audience.

Banksside Hotel works in partnerships with Art Agency Contemporary Collective to present a summer sculpture exhibition this season, which will also feature a statue by Claire Jackson, Johannes Nielson and Nataan Barrett. Georgi Morrison will work with a hotel for three months. The idea is to offer artists who arise opportunities to develop in front of the real audience.

The ground floor restaurant took inspiration from artists in all seasonal English menus. Opened in 2018 as part of the Marriott signature collection from hotels led by boutique designs, Bankside was the initial adoption of the trend of artists, but eight years later it remained one of the most committed properties of the most entire idea.
