Wants to do some heavy lifting for Eustace in Sha Tin

HISTORY invited the world’s fastest racehorse, Ka Ying Rising, when he set foot on the Sha Tin course in Hong Kong on Sunday morning.

The David Hayes-trained superstar looks to break the record of 17 consecutive wins held by Silent Witness in the city more than 20 years ago when he takes his 18th consecutive victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (08:35) over seven furlongs.

Having won his only attempt at the trip in the same race last season and officially marking 16 pounds ahead of nearest rival Lucky Sweynesse, defeat was inconceivable, and it was worth the admission money alone for his thousands of fans to watch him do his victory dance.

The undercard on the 11-race program offers one or two betting opportunities, including the David Eustace-trained ups and downwho looks poised to score his first success in the Rose Handicap (10:20) over seven furlongs.

The former Australian import and three-time winner in his home country has shown plenty of ability in his four races to date in the city, especially when turning heads in his latest effort, finishing fourth behind Emblazon over the course and distance two weeks ago.

On that occasion, coming from outside gate 14, he didn’t have much luck during the contest but was noted to defend strongly in the closing stages, and with better luck he would have made it into the frame.

This time he drew a better gate in five, which will allow him to sit closer to the early pace, and an in-form Jerry Chau in the saddle.

There is no doubt that he is better than his current handicap figure and, even though his opponents are Salon S who are aiming for a hat-trick and Ka Ying Attack, he is capable of winning.

For early risers on Sunday morning, keep an eye on Heaving’s stablemate, Sea Diamond, who lines up in the Heung Kuk Centenary Cup Handicap (7:00am) over six furlongs.

There were many strong vibrations coming from the stables. The four-year-old has improved dramatically since his debut in January and is worth keeping an eye on.
