The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, returned to Strasbourg to defend himself against a motion of disbelief, only a few months after the last motion of no confidence.
On Monday night, two motions do not believe in the president will be debated in the European parliament, because Von Der Leyen will defend himself against both ends of the political spectrum.
The Patriot right-wing group for Europe seeks to hold its accountability for its trade policies, especially the EU-Mercosur trade agreement and EU-US agreements. While the left group will criticize their trade policies and accuse him of “involved in genocide” in Gaza.
Jordan Bardella from the Patriots group from France and Manon Aubry from The Left of France both called for Von Der Leyen to retreat.
This happened after he survived a separate motion of disbelief in July on his secret message with the Head of the Pharmacy Giant Pfizer executive in 2021.
This led to legal action after members of the European Parliament sued von der Leyen for alleged defamation of the comments he conveyed in his speech at the European Parliament Plenary Session.
Romanian European Parliament member Gheorghe Piperea, from the conservative right -wing group and European Reformist (ECR), filed a lawsuit to the European Union court last month. He asked for moral compensation and official apology for what he thought as an accusation of defamation and political motivated by Von Der Leyen against him.
The motion of no confidence in von der Leyen is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
He is expected to survive, but if he loses in the election, he and other commission members must resign, thus making the political environment of the European Union chaotic.
