The club which is based at Old Trafford is expected to return to action transfer market busy summer. The midfield position is a top priority to strengthen.
Although the main focus is defensive midfielder, following Casemiro’s plans to leave on a free transfer, Manchester United is also considering adding players in the attacking midfield. This cannot be separated from Bruno Fernandes’ future situation which is not yet completely clear.
The Portugal national team player will enter the final year of his contract in June. However, Manchester United still has the option to extend his contract for an additional season.

According to The Sun’s report, Manchester United entered a name Matthew Fernandes as an additional option that is considered smart. The club also has the potential to receive encouragement from Bruno Fernandes to immediately realize the transfer.
With the certainty of Casemiro’s departure, Manchester United is believed to want to bring in two new midfielders this summer. Some of the names on the target list include Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
Mateus Fernandes has appeared quite impressive with West Ham this season. He recorded three goals and three assists in 30 matches in all competitions.
Even though he only joined from Southampton before the season started, West Ham is in danger of losing the 21 year old player. The threat of relegation in the Premier League is a major factor.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is currently in 18th position in the standings with seven matches remaining, one point away from the safe zone.
If relegated, West Ham may have to release a number of core players, including Mateus Fernandes, who was their most expensive purchase last summer.
The midfielder, who is referred to as an “elite” player, was recruited for a transfer value of around IDR 840 billion and signed a contract until the summer of 2030.
Joshua Zirkzee’s Future in Doubt
Manchester United is also expected to overhaul its squad this summer. One player whose future is uncertain is Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch striker struggled to get the chance to play under interim coach Michael Carrick. Throughout this season, he only appeared for 546 minutes in all competitions.
Zirkzee was recorded as a starter four times and came on as a substitute 16 times. This situation made him consider looking for a new club to get better playing opportunities.
According to reports from Italy, Napoli have held serious talks regarding a possible transfer for Zirkzee. The club wants to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who previously played for Manchester United.
Manchester United reportedly set a price of around IDR 700 billion for Zirkzee this summer. This value is close to the cost they spent when recruiting him in the summer of 2024, which was around IDR 730 billion.
