Reform UK has promised to cancel the Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR), labeling the “crazy” project ahead of the big announcement by the labor government in the coming weeks.
Richard Tice, as an attacker to a report with the exchange of Think Tank Right-Middle policy, told companies that consider offers for contracts to build NPR that they must “not bother” because the party will “spend money instead to the things that the country needs”.
NPR is a proposal to increase the East-West train connection throughout the northern Britain while workers are expected to make a commitment to NPR in the coming weeks.
Policy exchange documents predict that NPR will be a “larger train accident” from HS2, because the new path between Liverpool and Manchester can cost £ 30 billion.
The researchers warned the trip between cities in this path will take one minute longer than the fastest service at this time – which is 34 minutes – because the new path will serve Manchester Airport.
The report proposed an alternative scheme, such as “Elizabeth for the north”, equivalent to the northern train between Berkshire and Essex through a tunnel under the center of London.
This will involve tunnels under the center of Manchester City, connecting conventional lines that serve purposes such as Liverpool, Preston, Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield.
Policy exchange says “Crisis in HS2 is even worse than those recognized by ministers”, because “true costs” for the line between London and Birmingham are “up to 22 percent” higher than the number “declared to parliament”.
Source of HS2 Ltd has denied this number.
HS2 A ‘Historical Disaster’ – Tice Reform
Tice links “Political Obsession with High -speed rails” with how politics “isolated, in many ways, from the desires and real needs of ordinary voters”.
He added: “We all know the phrase that the definition of madness does the same thing repeatedly and expects different results.
“It seems that all of us, except the government.
“Even when HS2 historic disasters explode through more billions of excessive expenses and more years of delay, even when it sucks money from things that are actually needed by the state, even when taxes on people and businesses rise, ministers will be committed to high-speed railroad schemes that can make HS2 problems and trivial prices.”
He also said: “To anyone who is tempted to bid on a high-speed scheme of Liverpool-Manchester, or the northern foot of HS2 that is revived, I give this warning: do not bother.
“The reform government will spend money on the things that the country needs more.
“That is an option: tens of billions that are released to spend on conventional trains and roads that help ordinary people start working – or two decades of failure and waste.”
The author of the report is Andrew Gilligan, Senior Fellow and Head of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Livable London at the Exchange Policy and former Transportation Advisor No10.
He said: “Public transportation is a network. Creating a better public transportation means creating a better network-allowing people in thousands of places to travel easily from door to door, often by connecting from trains to trams or buses.
“This does not mean grafting one or two new high -speed paths, presenting several places, to a system that is still elderly.
“Focusing on high-speed rails also means obsession with links between places.
“But the main capacity problem of the northern train is in the node – that is, what happens on all trains when they reach Chokepoint like Central Manchester or Leeds.
“The high -speed scheme on the table will help relatively a little with this problem, with a very large cost.”
